PAULINE MARTIN
Thérèse's surrogate mother, after their real mother dies. Although devoted to her young sister, Pauline is overwhelmed with a desire to fulfill her dream of entering the Carmelite monastery. Thrown into confusion over the choice between staying to protect fragile Thérèse, and living her own life, she chooses to leave - "to meet her beloved in the desert" as she explains to Thérèse. Finally they are reunited in the monastery. Thérèse says of her, " You and you alone know me through and through."

Linda, named one of the top ten actors to watch by the Oregonian in Portland, Oregon, has an extensive background in theater and a deep love for Shakespeare, which gave her a good working relationship with director Leonardo. Thérèse was Linda's first feature film, and she says about her role, "In my family I was the youngest child, so playing the older sister was a new experience for me. I was always used to being the spoiled princess."
